Happy 144th birthday Manitoba!

WINNIPEG-   May 12 th , 1870, Manitoba became the fifth province in Canada. The country’s House of Commons signed the bill, and 144 years later, Manitoba remains the place where “ Canada’s Heart Beats.”

Monday many Manitobans who spoke to Global News didn’t know it was Manitoba Day.

“Do you know what today is?  No idea.” Replied one resident.

“I didn’t know today was Manitoba day.” Stated another.

In 2014, Manitoba is attempting to re brand itself as a tourism destination.  The province was also named by Maclean`s Magazine as a top 10 must see.

According to Manitoba Historian, Gerald Friesen, the growth in Manitoba can be attributed to a number of factors.

“We have brought in more people, found productive ways to grow, and the consequences for us all is that we’ve been growing more rapidly than the others. ”
