Calgarians invited to mark flood anniversary with Neighbour Day

CALGARY- With the one year anniversary of the devastating June 2013 floods approaching, plans are underway for how the city will mark the occasion.

“On June 20th, we’re going to have a commemoration of the flood here at City Hall,” said Mayor Naheed Nenshi. “I don’t want to say it will be a somber occasion, but an occasion for us to really reflect.”

However, there will be more of a celebration one day later, to honour the incredible volunteer effort around the city. Officials are encouraging Calgarians to mark Neighbour Day by having a block party, BBQ on the front lawn, or helping to clean up communities.

“June 21st is an opportunity for us to think about the incredible spirit, and how great we were to one another,” Nenshi added.
