WATCH: A local minor team gets a Stanley Cup surprise

It was a once in a lifetime opportunity for a local minor hockey team.

At their Friday afternoon practice, Scotiabank presented the Peewee 2 Mustangs with the Stanley Cup. The visit was a total surprise until the moment the 12 and 13 year olds walked into the dressing room.

Scotiabank wanted to do something fun for the team as a thank-you for their volunteer efforts raising money for breast cancer this season.

“They went on a ‘Go Pink’ program where they had to pay to wear pink laces, and use pink tape,” said Angie Watson, a local Scotiabank Branch Manager. “And in just two weeks they raised over $300 all by themselves.”

For many it was their first time seeing the Stanley Cup in person, including the team’s head coach, Jason Ottenbreit. He’s kept the secret from the team for a month, but says the payoff was worth it.
