A mother and her six-month-old baby escaped serious injury after they were hit by a car that ran a red light while they were crossing at an intersection in Nanaimo yesterday morning.
The mother was pushing her stroller in a marked crosswalk on Terminal Avenue near the Port Place Mall when a 21-year-old male driver of a Jetta struck the stroller. The force of the collision forced the baby and her car seat out of the stroller onto the road, where it ended up underneath the Jetta.
Witnesses to the accident rushed to the scene, picked up the car and dragged the baby out from underneath it. RCMP said besides being upset, the baby appeared to have only minor bumps and bruises.
Both the baby and her mother were taken to hospital and the six-month-old is being kept overnight for observation. The mother was treated for minor injuries and later…
