TORONTO — Television icon Henry Winkler will be honoured in Alberta in June.
The 68-year-old actor and director will receive the Award of Excellence at the Banff World Media Festival on June 10.
“I am grateful and very humbled to be recognized by this great festival,” Winkler said in a release Wednesday.
“Having the opportunity to entertain audiences for over 40 years has been a blessing.”
The award has been presented since 1982 to individuals whose work in the entertainment industry have touched the lives of audiences around the world.
Previous recipients include news anchor Walter Cronkite and Canadian actors Victor Garber, William Shatner and Eugene Levy.
Winkler is best known as the Fonz from the TV series Happy Days but has had a long and successful career as a producer and director. He has won two Golden Globe awards and a number of Emmy nominations.
