EDMONTON – City council decided to pass a motion Tuesday evening that could see it contributing to the construction of a pedway on the Galleria project. But that contribution hinges on whether businesses in the area and stakeholders like the province step in as well.
The Galleria plan calls for four new theatre spaces, several U of A departments and commercial office space on the north edge of downtown.
It would also seen an office tower built, the revenue from which would be used to help fund theatre maintenance and operations.
The city has been asked to contribute approximately $50 million, which would pay for land and a pedway connection.
But Tuesday’s motion focused only on the City’s committment to the pedway, and made it dependent on getting a commitment from those who would eventually move into the space.
